Joan Mir secured his best performance with fifth place in Brno, but remains skeptical about achieving consistent top-five results in MotoGP.
What happened in Brno?
The Spaniard started tenth and engaged in a duel with KTM's Pedro Acosta and Gresini's Fermin Aldeguer, before a technical issue promoted him to fifth on the last lap.
He opted for the soft rear tyre, a gamble that paid off as he managed its wear in the hot track conditions.
Why it matters for Joan Mir
Mir's result was notable, given he was the only rider to choose the soft rear tyre, which matched his riding style.
He stated: "I know that my riding is in the entry and mid corner, and with the medium tyres, you travel more but have more stability out of the corner."
What comes next for Honda?
Honda technical director Romano Albesiano believes the team's package should deliver top-five results, but Mir disagrees, citing the need for other riders to make mistakes.
Mir said: "No, I don't agree because we depend on other people's mistakes."
He added: "I'm happy that Romano is optimistic because it means that he wants to make good results, but I'm there riding the bike, and I know the capabilities of this bike."
The 28-year-old's performance in Brno was a highlight, but he remains focused on improving the bike's capabilities.
As he noted: "We close a bit, I know that if everything is on point, I can do it, but not every weekend."
So, Mir will continue to work on managing the tyre wear and finding the right balance for his riding style.
And with the next race approaching, he will look to build on his recent result and push for more consistent performances.
But for now, he remains cautious about his chances of achieving top-five results every weekend.
The Czechia Grand Prix result on August 5, 2024, marked a significant improvement for Mir, with a fifth-place finish.
